You know you're in Central New York when they bring out the five pound bags of salt potatoes!

This is how you know you're in Central New York: Bags of Salt Potatoes. (Yes, there is a big salt packet included in the bag to boil the potatoes with.)

I will not fail to swing by Weaver's anytime I am driving through to or from Oneonta. Bulk goods in plastic goods or tubs, baking supplies, local baked goods, specialty products, an amazing deli, lots of local and Amish/Mennonite meats and dairy, and a good produce section.

And here's a Macon Whoopee jersey. After the Whoopee folded, they were replaced by a team with a railroad-themed jersey and logo called the Macon Trax.

Here's some more from the Shawn Braley exhibit. Top picture is Bee FFs and the bottom picture is Frown. I bought some postcard prints. And the artist is actually here on Bluesky. @shawnbraley.bsky.social

There was yet another temporary exhibit when I went to the Fenimore. Wild Smiles: The Art of Shawn Braley. Shawn mostly does works with anthropomorphic animals.

Doing my laundromat reading tomorrow. . Sitting at La Maison Blanche in Norwich drinking coffee and eating madeleines while reading Angelica and the Bear Prince by Trung Le Nguyen @trungles.com on the first sunny afternoon in forever.

Weaver’s Farm Market in Morris , NY. A Mennonite market well off the beaten path three miles outside of town.

Another Bearden painting: The Piano Lesson.

No laundromat photo this weekend, but I am reading Summerlong by Peter S. Beagle @petersbeagle.bsky.social here at Deja Brew in Norwich.

The other main special exhibit was Romare Bearden: Artist, Activist, Visionary. I saw this exhibit with a guided interpretation from a docent. Staff at @fenimoreartmuseum.bsky.social give good tours.

From the exhibit: Tidings

This actually wasn't part of the exhibit, as it was in the children's activity room, but it's a very evocative scene.
October 24, 2025 at 1:33 AM
From the exhibit. I'm pretty sure I'd seen every framed strip in the exhibit in one book collection or another over the years. The only strips that were new to me were the ones from his initial submission to the syndicate, with a different design for Calvin

Look, it's metal lunchboxes! Just like the one my kid sister's friend gashed open my scalp with! Hey, @discontinuedfoods.bsky.social, do you have these in your lunchbox listings?

A shot of the exhibit rooms for the Exploring Calvin and Hobbes Exhibit.
October 20, 2025 at 11:01 PM
However, I was there for the special exhibits, foremost of which was the Exploring Calvin and Hobbes retrospective. Excuse my poor photography as I had to rush to get a people-free shot.

Also went to the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown. Specializes in Early American paintings and folk art, plus an expansive collection Native American Art.
October 20, 2025 at 3:51 PM
Also swung by the Fly Creek Cider Mill right after they opened for the day. It gets very crowded later as the fall is their busy season. Of course, they have all the cider and cider donuts you could want, all made on premises, but they've also turned into quite the food and gift emporium.

Took advantage of the unseasonably good weather to take a road trip. Went to the Cooperstown Farmers' Market. IMHO the best indoor small-town market in central NY. I was restrained today, as I only bought tatsoi, frisee, mesclun, delicata squash, and daikon sprouts.

A shot of The Sweet Shop inside The Eclectic Chic. Not pictured is the main reason I spend money when I go to TEC: the back alcove by the restrooms where they have shelves of longboxes. Mostly 80s comics with some 70s and some 90s
October 19, 2025 at 1:40 PM
Another interior shot of The Eclectic Chic, this time showing a front-to-back view. In addition to vendor booths, TEC also has a restaurant, an ice cream, dessert counter, refrigerated cases with local meat and dairy products, a community space for auctions and events and more
