Why does 'finding the fun' fail so often as a design strategy?
#gamedesign

New designers are told to prototype and 'find the fun'. But the naive version of this is a garbage tactic that mostly results in poorly thought out prototypes that are never going to converge on gameplay.

I finished Slitterhead tonight and I think it's a real shame that this game seems to be going under the radar, I liked it a lot and I'm glad that I took a chance on it

It's weird in all of the right ways and I can't say that I've played another action game quite like it

#ScreenShotSaturday My game is like Superhot Dark Souls; a turn-based RPG with a combat system you've never seen before. I stream all my gamedev on twitch.tv/seannyb

Since I'm new here I figure that's a good excuse to post some old projects, so here's one from a couple of years ago!

It's called Degradation, a puzzle/adventure game where you apply positive or negative charges to objects to solve puzzles.

It's a free dl on itch, link below!

Metaphor is my game of the year. i asked director Hashino a very specific question.

He replied, “To be honest, you asked a question that really hits the core. I’ve done many interviews, and I haven’t had a question like this.”

Review | The year’s smartest game asks: Is civil democracy just a fantasy?
“Metaphor: ReFantazio” is the most audacious, exciting video game story of the year as it chronicles the birth of democracy.

Kinda wild that a prevailing misunderstanding of good game design is that players should know straight away how to do something as soon as they encounter it... We learn by trying and that means some people will get it wrong the first time, that doesn't mean the design is bad.

A couple of strange picks this year imo but it's nice to see some JRPG recognition for once, especially with how fantastic both Metaphor and Rebirth are. Would've liked to see Unicorn Overlord and SMTVV get some love too but that was never going to happen so eh

Hey, I'm moving over here from the other site. Not sure how active I'll really be, but I think I'll mostly be using this to talk about games I'm currently interested in (usually RPGs, but I kind of play everything) or muse about game design in general.
