I feel like Xmas lunch was a real milestone moment for my cooking journey. Glazing a ham is super simple, but felt super meaningful to do that for my family after all their support this year. Then I took a big swing and made mango pancakes for Boxing Day brekky.

Went to a Lucha show back in the start of November and took a disposable camera along, so this is my soft pitch to any Sydney indie promotions to let me shoot some film for you in any capacity... I will bring a better camera and the appropriate film stock for the occasion next time.

After the high of our first showcase at SXSW Syd, some issues behind the scenes and in my personal life kinda really got me down, but I'm glad to say I'm heading into the end of the year in a really positive place and ready to fully embrace the life I've been working on these past couple of months.

Finally sorted out the battery issues that has been getting in the way of shooting more medium format.
Took the Bronica out onto breakwall during the heatwave and got some shots on Kodak TMax.

Reaction to that character in Metroid really just shows that you must resist the voices in the room that demand overt tutorialisation from chatty NPCs and have confidence in the atmosphere + tone of your project. Especially when the series is known primarily for that atmosphere.

this is so cart-before-horse to me. i don't accept that people's attention spans are shorter in a way that has to matter. the problem is that we keep thinking that and "complying in advance" with the imagined boogieman of "people not paying attention nowadays". nothing done in that direction helps
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

It's hard to overcome the "what I would have done" style criticism and even then, the attitude gets baked into the tone in other ways... Like "games writing has always been bad" as if you are the only one who sees the flaws of an entire medium.

I think writing for games will always be the lightning rod for vitriolic criticism because a not-insignificant amount of critics fancy themselves better writers than the people making games by default.
I'm going to be honest it is unpleasant to work in the discipline within the games industry that people seem to have especially-reserved venom for. Nobody seems really intent on calling out, eg, video game sountracks they think are middling as if it's really important to yell about.
