Here’s the spectator’s car that took the brunt of the damage.

Single digit temperatures are difficult to achieve in the greater Seattle area. The last time we did it was in 1989, when Seattle hit 7°. This is a look at the coldest temperatures the past 11 years in Seattle.

The high temperature would get to 20° that day, but then plummet to the second coldest temperature ever recorded of 1° on the morning of February 1. Green Lake and parts of Gig Harbor were frozen over. There were even icy spots on Puget Sound (see the pic below from Washington State Ferries).

I’ll never forget that one! Kids stranded at school, people just abandoning cars on HWY 26… that was a wild evening commute.

What ended up happening? How did they get through it? We had to leave to get back to the babysitter after try #4.
