I'm (just) a grad student but seeing publications sell all of their materials to some AI-machine literally hurts my soul. I wanted to publish in that journal but now... second thoughts. I already don't get paid, but them selling my years of labor hurts.

Yeah absolutely, it's such a mess!! I really hope bluesky will make things easier once it's more settled and more people are able to migrate over. So far the experience has been night and day.

I think if you go private they can't scrape your data for the AI, but honestly I don't know if that's trustworthy information either. It's just so disheartening to watch twitter slowly decay and fall apart. What's gonna be left? Bots talking to bots?
