I tweet about games here

Some games I enjoyed playing in 2025:

1. Contra: Hard Corps (Japan version)

The Japanese version of Hard Corps is much more forgiving- you get a health bar and unlimited continues. I had more fun playing this over the English version. My favorite weapon is Ray's spreadshot. It looks so good.
I like Gears 5 quite a bit. Might be my favorite Xbox game. Not just a game about mindless shooting and grunts. The story is well told. I cared for the characters. One of those rare games where the cut scenes was worth watching and not skipping. I am now a Kait and Marcus fan.

Alabaster Dawn looks good and plays good. Very nice production values. Looking forward to its early access release this year

Man I really wanted to like Control but I was annoyed by the fighting in the dark stuff and the game bugging me with side quests to do. I am a fan of Dr. Darling.

If Fable is in this week's Xbox Direct I don't expect to see it cancelled or delayed. I believe every game showcased in a Developer Direct has pretty much shipped without any issues
Xbox has announced that it will air a Developer Direct showcase later this month featuring Fable, Forza Horizon 6, and Pokémon maker Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation. gameinformer.com/2026/01/08/j...

Just found out there's a Parasite Eve-like game called Parasite Mutant.

I enjoyed SteamWorld Heist but never finished it. Maybe got two thirds of the way there. Didn't like every part of it. The game is a 2D XCOM that has the SteamWorld vibe to it

Infernax doesn't get talked about enough. A well made game in the style of Castlevania II but with a modern take. Fun combat and platforming and a nice homage to old school Castlevania

I feel like Elden Ring and Monster Hunter Rise were two games that were able to bring in a lot of newcomers to its series. Bandai Namco must be delighted with all the sales of their old Souls games after Elden Ring blew up

Turns out there's an app for the Epic Games Store where you can grab free games like Monument Valley II. But right now the app is only available in the EU

Alzara from Blue Prince was one of the best vide game things this year

According to my Steam Replay I played a lot of Turok. Good game. I was surprised by its scope. The world of Turok is quite big and has a lot of hidden secrets

Arc Raiders has some Star Wars vibe to it, understandably since it was made by folks who worked at DICE

Sad to see Switch 2 owners get a bad experience with Skyrim. The game deserves way better treatment. It's the prettiest open world game imo

I'm glad Bungie made this new 20 minute video going over Marathon because my initial reaction to the game was, "What the hell is Marathon?"

If you are going to make a hero shooter, the heroes have to give a good first impression like Overwatch or Marvel Rivals. I didn't get that feel from Concord or Highguard

Wow Phasmophobia sold 25 million copies already

A reminder that Sea of Stars is one of the best modern RPGs you should play

Hopefully the new Tomb Raider will return to its roots. Featuring dinosaurs!

The gritty realistic reboot looked great but was not as enjoyable. The bear encounter was quite memorable though.

I've watched a bunch of reviews for XCOM War of the Chosen and I wish someone had pointed out how chatty the Chosen can be and that it's very annoying and bad

I didn't realize that we are going to get a Life Is Strange tv series. And it's supposedly based on the first game.

A good way to make me not want to play your live service game is by forcing pop up ads on me for your $100 cosmetic bundles

TIL there was a NES cart called MaxiVision that was supposed to have 30 games on it. I also was stunned to see this MaxiVision video promo hosted by Hulk Hogan and featuring Mr Wonderful and the Honky Tonk Man. One 90s ass moment today for me
A treat for helping us reach the goal for our annual fundraiser:

We've redigitized the MaxiVision Power Video Challenge, an infomercial for an unlicensed NES multicart, featuring WWF superstars in the WORLD GAME FEDERATION
