Enjoying Becoming the Pastor’s Wife and All the Buried Woman. My experience in the Church of Christ as a minister’s wife was a little different (women are barred from even more in the CoC) but so much of it rings true. @bethallisonbarr.bsky.social

Now my life goal is to own a cabin on Sylamore Creek. ☺️

…to Kansas City and drove over to the Kansas side as neither of us had been to Kansas before. We went to a little park area at the confluence of the Kansas & Missouri Rivers. An incredibly familiar smell permeated the air & it wasn’t until later I realized it was the scent of cottonwood. /2

I keep this little bottle of cottonwood bud infused oil on my desk at work. I’m not entirely sure why, but it’s an incredibly nostalgic scent for me. I know there would have been a lot of cottonwood trees where I grew up, but I never gave them any thought.

A while back we took a trip…

My sweet Lil Gal insisted that I bring “Jimmy Bear” to work with me today.

But, on second thought, she advised me to leave him in the car because he’s “a lot to handle.” ☺️

So I checked out the video & website. Tricky of them to list the name of someone associated with the American College of Pediatricians (a political advocacy group) & not the American Academy of Pediatrics (professional medical organization).

21.6%, baby!

If 21.6% of Arkansas’ public ed funding vanishes, I’d be out of a job as well as my whole team. No more funds to administer language services to our 300+ English learners. We rely on title I & title III funds to run programs & pay staff.

Just sayin.’

Arkansas schools need federal Title I funds to operate. All counties qualify because we don’t get enough from state and local sources.

But…wow…sure has been a lot already…and it’s only Tuesday.

What’s on your current playlist? I’m clearly going all in for some Switchfoot/Jon Foreman this week.

My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.

To the best of my knowledge, due to FERPA, schools shouldn’t hand over any student records unless the immigration officials have a valid court order/subpeona. To determine if that’s the case, the school’s attorney should be involved. Otherwise, don’t share student data.
January 22, 2025 at 4:13 AM
In AR we do not ask questions about immigration status when enrolling a student.

Plyler vs Doe assures districts nationwide do not discriminate based on immigration status.

If a student can verify they live within our district or have the proper transfer paperwork, they are eligible to enroll.

It turned out pretty good. Not my all time favorite, but a solid recipe.

It’s chili time! Trying out a new recipe. This one is super simple and the chorizo is a nice touch. I’m a chili snob & am team no beans. I also despise soupy chili.

I tweaked the recipe with a little smoked paprika, a little cumin, and maybe 1/2 tsp of brown sugar to counteract the acidity.

Oh wise Bluesky fam, I am trying to figure out of the $59 Cuisinart hard anodized covered sauce pan is good enough or if shelling out more for the Hexclad pan is worth it. I have the 10 in skillet from the same Cuisinart line & like it.

But will a fancy skillet change my life?

Hey y’all! Looks like Rep Collins is going to try to bring back the Teacher Fair Dismissal Act. Sadly, LEARNS did away with this protection.

If you ask a teacher, they’ll let you know that TFDA is a very important job protection.

This is probably a long shot- but do we have any Arkansas English learner teachers/coordinators out here on Blue Sky? ☺️

Sharing a pic of some state wide stats on AR language minority students/English learners.

-43,288 English learners( 9.13% of AR K-12 students)
-143 different languages spoken

Here are my two beagles. Sandy, the “beagle of naps” and Lil Gal, “the beagle of cuteness.”

I’m also trying out blue eyeliner/shadow (not too bold lol) bc my typical neutral palette gets hidden with the new glasses.

If you’re a Texan (or former Texan) you understand why I was so excited to find a Whataburger in North Mississippi. ☺️

Nothing much…just showing off new glasses with Lil Gal.

I’ve been too busy & too tired to care, but here’s to 41 years. ☺️
