A place for Repair Cafe enthusiasts. Exchange tips, ask questions, find parts.
I'm wondering why organising a Repair Cafe would cost $3000 each. Where does that money go?
Repair Cafes all over the world run without funding. Why is Vancouver different? Ask a community center if they can host it. Ask a local cafe or restaurant if you can sit upstairs. Be creative.

"Each event costs roughly $3,000 to run.."
Yet Repair Cafes in lots of places run without funding, and even generate a small amount because of gifts.
What does SPEC provide for this money?

A Repair Cafe does not exist because of funding, it exists because a group of people is coming together to repair things.
The venue can be subsidized. Find a new venue. Combine with a second hand goods location, ask a local community center, etc.

There is a very well written article about the battery replacement for these type of toothbrushes: toothbrushbattery.com/guides/braun...

If you have the battery available a repair cafe might very well be able to help you.

- Are you sure the problem is with the battery?
- Which toothbrush?
- Do you have the replacement battery? Repair cafes typically don't stock those.

In the production of some cables they use fishmeal or fishoil. That is the main reason for martens to chew the cables.

In the Philips Senseo coffee machines they're used for timing too. You'll get less and less coffee over time.

The failure mode of a foil cap is interesting. If it shorts, the aluminium foil will evaporate at the short, thereby undoing the short and losing a bit of capacitance. Very safe.

Das ist der Sollbruchstelle. Mit einem 3D-Drucker können Repair Cafés so etwas oft reparieren.

Anyone in the #uk have experience of setting up a #repaircafe ? There isn't one in my local town and I'm investigating setting one up. Especially with the #endof10 looming for #windows10 , I figure my experience with #linux and fixing stuff could be useful to others.
