We're an inclusive group of left-leaning folks in Alabama working to support the candidates and causes that make our world a better place for all of us. Anti-Trump. Pro-drinking margs with our fellow Blue Dots in this Red State.
Bad news, party people. It's supposed to rain all weekend here in Tuscaloosa. We've made the difficult decision to call off the outdoor event scheduled for Sunday, May 18 with @markwheelerii.bsky.social. We'll reschedule soon!

Between @booker.senate.gov's magnificent, soaring oratory and stamina plus
the volunteers' effort up to the last hours in Wisconsin I have renewed faith in our fellow Americans' devotion to democracy. We can do this. But it takes all of us. Remember April 5 is coming up.

Maybe you've heard? Late yesterday a federal judge ruled that the state of Alabama can't prosecute people who help folks traveling outside the state for abortion care. It's a big win! We have so many people thank for this. Among them? The ACLU of Alabama's Legal Director Alison Mollman...

Via @jennifershutt.bsky.social: While rural residents who depend on the state-federal program for lower income people would experience the most substantial impacts, those who have private health insurance or have other coverage, like Medicare, would likely encounter changes as well.
Medicaid cuts rippling through rural America could bring hospital closures, job losses • Alabama Reflector
Rural hospitals and primary care physicians’ incomes would likely go down, potentially leading to reductions in services offered for everyone or even closures.

We get messages on a lot of platforms asking "what's being done about [Latest MAGA Horror]?" And usually the answer to that is "something!" and we're able pass on contact details and scheduled events. But sometimes we don't know. And sometimes we ask around and we still don't know.

This is such a nightmare and, like all our best national nightmares, one that impacts disproportionately on our most vulnerable neighbors
Beginning March 31, people will no longer be able to verify their identity with the SSA over the phone. Those unable to verify their identity through the agency’s “my Social Security” online service will be required to visit a field office in person to complete the process.
