The main character reminds me a bit of the main character from Notes from the Underground. He’s not meant to be taken at face value. His behavior is actually a critique of culture in my mind. Definitely a masterpiece IMHO despite detractors.

He’s definitely a favorite of mine along with Graham Greene and Flannery O’Connor. (Great human and spiritual insights.) Lancelot is a bit much for some people, but the main character’s flaws and raving reveals the hope we can find in grace. Enjoy!
