Saying or infering this is among the most violent times in American cities doesn’t make it so. Awareness is up. The random nature is frightening. Certain kinds of violent crime? Up. Yet it’s the safest we’ve been by many measures since 1994. Be careful but don’t let fear alone shape decions.

“I think it was when I got tear-gassed leading a march in Camden that I began to change. I saw that the men who came at me were themselves not free …. I began to discover a new freedom in the cross—freedom to love the enemy and in that freedom to will and to try to set him free.” Jonathan Daniels

So much denial & sin. The entire “cause” was tainted by the evils of slavery. Yet, people blame Lincoln, cite constitutional issues, deflect in every way possible without acknowledging the truth - the Confederacy was rotten from the inside. Slavery is evil. This man should not be in this position.

Interregnum in ancient Rome was the legal & political in-betweenness after the death of the sovereign and preceding the enthronement of his successor - a time with peace & justice cast aside. Gramsci was reflecting while imprisoned under Mussolini. Social change, violence & despots often go together.

My department used the occasion of Law Enforcement United’s visit to mark their first line of duty death one hundred years ago this month, Traffic Officer Ellsworth Morse, killed while trying to make a traffic stop through a collision. A wreath was formally laid at our monument.

It’s always great to meet up with fellow International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC) members. Chaplain Sam Frye of Charles City County PD serves also as National Chaplain of Law Enforcement United. Their ride came by my department today on their way to DC.

Darn tootin, some people aren’t excited about his joking about wanting to become Pope. Maybe leave memes to the kids & kids at heart, not official government accounts - especially if a person’s faith is involved. This is one popular meme response.

The 3 Priests Walk in a Bar Podcast agrees with Homer, "You don't win friends with salad." Past good times gathered around the virtual kids table remain available, BUT we’re back creating special episodes for the 1700th anniversary of the Nicen Creed.
