It was too cold to work in the yard (what’s up with 40*F in TX in April?) so I decided to do a little cooking to get ahead for the week.
We saw a new sloppy Joe sauce that promised what I remember from school lunches. We’ll see. I haven’t made sloppy Joe since our daughter was still living here

First poppy. I bought these on half price last week. They looked so sad but had lots of unopened blooms. Brought them home and perked them up and one has started to bloom.

This pink witch hazel must be one of the first things I put in the garden. It’s been moved several times and has found a new happy place.

Found this little guy while cleaning up plants yesterday. Gave him a ride to a nice plant. He must have liked it because he wouldn’t move and I finally had to push him a little

Watching a pair of cardinals play in the birdbath. He dove in and went under and flung water everywhere. She’s much more timid and flits across the surface.

We sat on the deck last night with friends. There was ash in the air from a fire near here. And so so so much pollen. Husband and I both need an allergy pill

I don’t usually buy pink orchids. I prefer green backgrounds or white with a brown center. But this one was on sale and it was so pretty I had to have it.

Flowers. Finally. My forsythia had a rough year last year. I grow it in a pot here or it gets out of control. Last year, it split its pot and I didn’t notice. It almost died from lack of water. Not a lot of bloom this year.
