Funny thing about the anti-DEI crowd, they only can choose candidates from a very limited pool and repeatedly show that that pool is not merit based. When they select from only one race, and only the most bigoted among that race, it’s severely limits the competency of candidates.

I just expected better from Nani. These are sisters, yes, but one is significantly older and I don’t think her portrayal as being more sympathetic to Lilo in the original is unrealistic. Nani was pressed into a hard situation at a young age, but how she handled that didn’t need to be updated.

Yeah, this is my field of study. Beyond my own writing, I am currently working on a piece about Tolkien’s essay, On Fairy Stories. In it he discusses the need for fairy stories to be juxtaposed to reality to achieve their magic. I can appreciate this necessity and still be disappointed in the remake

I have eight sisters, you have no idea what I’ve seen... lol

Maybe fairy tales don’t need to be so grim, despite the conventions of reality. Keep in mind, we are talking about a world where Agent Cobra Bubbles convinced aliens to protect Earth to preserve mosquitoes.

I developed a hyper fixation a couple months ago when this movie came out. This travesty has been boggling my mind ever since.

Disney officially entered their “dark and gritty” era when Nani yelled at Lilo that she needed to live in reality and leave her childish ideals behind.

Yes, there is so much room in fantasy for being grounded. As well as thought out worldbuilding, I appreciate emotional grounding, where the character’s reactions are true to the heart.

It seems every update comes with worse autocorrect and dictation or a patch to fix the last versions crappy autocorrect/dictation. Lately, I’m getting a bunch of unnecessary punctuation.

I hope you can find spaces offline to be vulnerable. Even the allowance to be oneself without judgment that any corner of the internet might offer, pales in comparison to the real world support that is needed in response to vulnerability.

I understand they are common on hamburgers in much of the world. Perhaps this comes from the same line of thinking.

We can only test our own mettle in this regard. Inevitably, only our actions say anything of matter on the topic.

Mostly it takes form as some kind of bigotry, but it results politically as an intolerance for efforts to relieve suffering. Yet to call anyone out for self loathing can feel like an attack and not very humane of me. 2/2

This is essentially the tolerance paradox. How do we tolerate intolerance? Lately, I’ve begun to consider that we are dealing with sadists here. They aim to cause suffering, but it goes deeper than that. I believe sadists loathe themselves and express that self loathing as intolerance. 1/2

I mostly use the definition to check my own hubris. But it’s also a lovely way to include more species than homosapiens under the human umbrella.
May 13, 2025 at 6:47 PM
I totally can understand. My definition for human only requires an effort toward being humane. Whether those efforts are successful is not up to me to decide and it wouldn’t be very humane of me to argue otherwise.
May 13, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Yeah, just after I posted that I realized there should have been an asterisk on human*

* Human defined by anyone who makes an effort to be humane.

I never expected the Butlerian Jihad to go like this, but honestly, the sooner we decide that human thought is more valuable than simulated thought, the better.

I am beginning to think that these people are all sadists. They know no joy, loathe themselves, and only aim to spread their suffering.

That they care for anyone, is their biggest lie. They find pleasure in causing suffering. Sadists, every last one of them.
