My dad got a bad case of shingles in his early 80's after mom died. He was treated with anti virals and epidural steroids but still had persistent touch sensitivity version or postherpetic neuralgia until he died 7 years later. Clothing, sheets, even a breeze on his torso were irritating.

I do not remember an orientation meeting. I also don't remember Woodstock, although I'm from upstate NY. It happened the weekend my daughter was born, we were in a news blackout. No tvs or radios. No internet 😂. By time I got out, it was no longer news. It took me years to figure the timing out.

This was in N. Michigan in the 60s. The unit was staffed by corpsmen unless someone was sick enough to have a nurse. We picked our own babies up in the nursery, after making our beds. Except for one big hulking guy who would balance 4-6 babies in his arms and deliver. The price was right. $5/day.

Chipped beef on toast, liver/onions, spinach. I like liver, now that it's not healthy, I eat spinach, raw but still 🤮 on the chipped beef/gravy. They fed it to me when I had a baby in an AF hospital, thinking it was oatmeal, put sugar and milk on it and spit it out. Oh, and beets, beets are a NO.
