Next year the boat will be run on Coniston Water by a different team with engineering support from Babcock, so with any luck things will go more smoothly

Yes, there were a few runs on the very small Loch Fad. It revealed a number of problems to address - hull and sponsons leaked constantly, the canopy blew off, and during the final high speed run, the driver momentarily lost control and almost hit the pier. But it was a great milestone

Fascinating pic. The Avro 619 Five was a scaled down version of the Avro 618 Ten, which was itself a licence-built version of the Fokker F.VIIb/3m. Only a few were built but they did some rather intrepid flights
