🔹 Know your main shut-off: In case of a burst pipe, knowing how to quickly shut off your water can minimize damage.

Taking a few precautions now can help keep your home’s water flowing all winter long. Stay warm, Bloomington!

🔹 Let a small stream run: Allow a thin trickle of cold water to run from a faucet during the coldest nights to keep water moving.
🔹 Open cabinet doors: Let warm air circulate around indoor plumbing near exterior walls.

🔹 Check your meter pit: Make sure the lid is properly closed and secured. A sealed lid helps insulate your service line.
🔹 Protect exposed pipes: Insulate pipes in unheated areas like garages, crawl spaces, and basements.

When soil is protected from erosion and contamination, it traps pollutants before they reach our lakes and streams, supporting resilient landscapes, and helping to protect the watersheds that feed local water supplies

Thanks for helping keep our soil healthy and our watersheds strong!

Your curiosity and energy made the tour and hands-on activities truly rewarding. We’re grateful for the work you do to bring water science and environmental education to students throughout our region and beyond (some traveled from as far away as Elkhart County!).

And thank you to everyone who braved the rain to join CBU at the Monroe Water Treatment Plant. We were thrilled to welcome such an enthusiastic group of educators eager to trace our community’s drinking water from Lake Monroe to the tap.
