By the time I dragged myself out of bed to the window, those helicopters were almost out of sight. Wonder what that was. DC’s new normal.

“Unauthorized use of a vehicle” always makes me laugh. That was quite a fuss in Bloomingdale yesterday for what they make sound like a teenager borrowing the family car without getting the parents’ permission.

A neighbor thinks it is Park Police - his photo closer to Rhode Island Avenue. I don’t see any vehicles around and the chopper is moving around a bit now.

In addition to Bloomingdale’s two Bib Gourmand restaurants, we also have établi, a wine-centric restaurant that hosted a 🇫🇷 Beaujolais Nouveau tasting last night. Sounds like acquiring the wine during these confusing times was a challenge.

Nov 1, 1925-long article about 11 year old Harry Val, called the Bard of Bloomingdale. They lived at 111 Rhode Island and his father had a tailor shop in what is now a restaurant at the corner. Fun to see he was also pictured with Eleanor Roosevelt in a 1944 Draft Aid Center as he joined the Army.

National Guard in a sunset stroll along Rhode Island Avenue, NW. I think my father is rolling over in his grave.

100 years ago- Chief of Police Daniel Sullivan died at his V Street residence in Bloomingdale. (Happy to see that @librarycongress.bsky.social Chronicling America is working.)

This pic is over 7 years old and this building on Florida Avenue is still vacant - but on the market. Ground floor retail space with 3 condos above. Disappointed to see that the condo name does not pay homage to cell phones.

Just found this torn, stained 1943 handbook for civilian employees in the Army with my father’s papers. I’m sure he was still in the service then so not sure why he had this. But seeing War Department made me wonder what he would be thinking today.

As of this morning, the church property at 1st and Rhode Island is still on the auction calendar for September 25. (But it has been pulled at the last minute a couple of times .)

In 1939, a German farmer in a beer house called Hitler a farmer. He was sent to prison. Doesn’t seem so shocking today as it might have last year.

Last empty lot in Bloomingdale is now going vertical. Glad to see the alley has reopened after the builder’s work caused the alley to collapse.

This is rich! 100 years ago, Maryland drivers who drove into DC were skirting the regs to save a few bucks (altho I think the top headline is misleading.)

What a lovely surprise! A neighbor (who I say hello to but don’t know) brought me peppers and tomatoes this morning as a thank you for letting him take a cutting from my fig tree the other day. I was so happy that someone asked first, and a thank you was more than enough. World seems better today!

A neighbor who saw this arrest Wednesday afternoon said it was the same man who has been bothering people on First Street in central Bloomingdale and at Mundo Verde in Truxton Circle @cmzparker5.bsky.social @humaimtiaz.bsky.social @fixcircle.bsky.social

I did NOT order this - I don’t even know what it is. But hope the driver makes it safely around DC tonight- this is the first time getting delivery since we have been invaded.

Here is the zoning determination letter for the proposed stadium at RFK. Sounds like the stadium dome will not count when determining compliance with DC’s Height Act.

Searching in DigDC for a photo I have seen before and ran across this 1956 photo of a backyard shed along Crispus Attucks Park in Bloomingdale. Tonight, there will be music @6:30 and a movie @7:30 in the park! @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social
