By the time I dragged myself out of bed to the window, those helicopters were almost out of sight. Wonder what that was. DC’s new normal.

@hgil.bsky.social Did you get a Total Wine coupon? Just saw something there that you would like.

“Unauthorized use of a vehicle” always makes me laugh. That was quite a fuss in Bloomingdale yesterday for what they make sound like a teenager borrowing the family car without getting the parents’ permission.

There is a helicopter hovering over my house.
Not circling - hovering. 😬

In addition to Bloomingdale’s two Bib Gourmand restaurants, we also have établi, a wine-centric restaurant that hosted a 🇫🇷 Beaujolais Nouveau tasting last night. Sounds like acquiring the wine during these confusing times was a challenge.

Woohoo! @metrobusinfo.bsky.social has 36 applications before @ddotdc.bsky.social PSC this month for new benches. Looks like 3 might be good for me since I can’t ever get anywhere now without changing. (But I would rather have the old routes back!)

Nov 1, 1925-long article about 11 year old Harry Val, called the Bard of Bloomingdale. They lived at 111 Rhode Island and his father had a tailor shop in what is now a restaurant at the corner. Fun to see he was also pictured with Eleanor Roosevelt in a 1944 Draft Aid Center as he joined the Army.

Very strange research rabbit hole today. Trying to find someone in the 1950 census and it seems like a bunch of houses on the street were skipped. So tried another way to search and found the person’s mother was in Saint Elizabeths. The ED list is 169 pages!!!

This pic is over 7 years old and this building on Florida Avenue is still vacant - but on the market. Ground floor retail space with 3 condos above. Disappointed to see that the condo name does not pay homage to cell phones.

Just found this torn, stained 1943 handbook for civilian employees in the Army with my father’s papers. I’m sure he was still in the service then so not sure why he had this. But seeing War Department made me wonder what he would be thinking today.

Hello @metrobusinfo.bsky.social - another day of waiting for the D32 that doesn’t come. And the northbound stop before New York - supposedly G and 10th - is still a mystery.

As of this morning, the church property at 1st and Rhode Island is still on the auction calendar for September 25. (But it has been pulled at the last minute a couple of times .)

In 1939, a German farmer in a beer house called Hitler a farmer. He was sent to prison. Doesn’t seem so shocking today as it might have last year.
