My hot take: if your destination is under two miles, walk. Save gas. Reduce road congestion. Stay fit.

It's Hot-Take Tuesday. It might be a one-and-done event.

Anyways, what's your hot take? You get a gold star if it's climate related.

Americans' fridges are way too big. You'd save money, waste less food (an important climate solution!) if your fridge was smaller.

Welcome to my Ted Talk and/or Subway Take.
I have a theory that we'd waste a lot less food if our fridges were smaller. I think empty fridges make people anxious so they fill them and then waste what's there.

@jaredlholt.bsky.social I know it's outside the goal/framing of the "WTH Is" episodes, but I'm just dying to know WTH is Bill Kristol. Just the most unexpected trajectory, imo....or was he a misunderstood guy the whole time?

What @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social says is why, I think, some people still say that the public isn't being as active as they should be. They *are* being active, but D politicians aren't and some journalists just see the D politician failure as failure writ large.
"They wanted this to go differently."

The crackdown isn’t going as planned. Courts are blocking schemes, cities are pushing back, and protesters are making life very uncomfortable for Trump’s enforcers.

@billkristolbulwark.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social explain how resistance is working.

guess what job I'm talking about.
Is there any other profession where you just get to say "look, we're exceptional and we don't really give a shit about the economic situation of other people and whenever we are in economic distress, it's the DUTY of taxpayers to bail us out."

I guess Wall Street bankers?

Really love how this guy posted this on TikTok thinking the woman who broke his Meta glasses would come off as the villain, as opposed to him, the guy recording her without her consent for social media content via a surveillance device made by one of the worst companies on earth
Woman Hailed as Hero for Smashing Man's Meta Smart Glasses on Subway
A New York subway rider has accused a woman of breaking his Meta smart glasses. She was later hailed as a hero.

It might be easy to find things like this merely petty or superficial, but that would be a mistake. Demeaning, erasing or eliminating celebrations or acknowledgments of Black America is straight from Redemption playbook, and is intended to reinforce the racial hierarchy and signal its reinstatement.
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

@samsteindc.bsky.social conflates mental illness w racism ("He's a disturbed dude"). Racists are not mentally ill. Racism is a worldview that makes sense to racists. I'm pointing it out here but it's not the 1st time Bulwark staff have conflated racism & mental illness. Journalists need to be clear.
"It's like this guy has just lost his marbles."

@samsteindc.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social discuss Trump's "mad king" energy and whether the president is looking out for regular people or for the tech billionaires that actually hate MAGA Americans.

Sentimental Value is a really gorgeous film. At the heart of it, it’s about a family trying to find their way back to each other through obstacles of generational trauma. Though emotional and poignant, it’s not super-heavy. It left me feeling optimistic.

This is a gift. Thank you to @siembranc.bsky.social for sharing this new toolkit with what they did when Border Patrol showed up in NC: docs.google.com/document/d/1... - share far and wide especially with our comrades in MN and LA (New Orleans esp).
Toolkit: how we dealt with Border Patrol
In November 2025, Border Patrol announced it would be coming to Charlotte, North Carolina. We only had a few days’ notice. Just like in Chicago and Los Angeles, they weren’t coming to “keep the peace....

The same is true for international development work. If the US ever rebuilds its presence in other countries, this should be a founding idea.
Once again, one of the most consistently replicated findings in the history of experiments is that giving people cash with zero strings attached has massive social benefits for those receiving the cash as well as the community around them
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that's the case."

This is a flat-out 100% lie from @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and he knows it. Impeachment resolutions are privileged, they can force a vote at any time.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.
