The jury system may not be perfect, but we all have our own own biases based on experience. Nearly 2/3 of judges were privately educated, 3/4 went to Oxbridge. Until the judiciary reflects society, juries offer some protection from upper class bias against types of people they've never mixed with.

Yep, and I bet the proportion of "affordable" houses in the development was reduced because otherwise the development is uneconomical, because nobody thought to dig out a calculator when they were making the planning application!

Where I am there are plenty of houses going up, but none that anyone local could ever afford. Until the developments include genuinely affordable or social rent housing the crisis isn't going away. But that would upset the developers, so it won't ever happen will it.

I think you're probably right, and all of his own making. If he'd had the balls or self-knowledge to ditch McSweeney earlier, I think he'd have a chance of turning it round (although in itself that shows up his utter lack of principles) but its almost certainly too late for him now.
