Good government is tyrannical rule by a giant evil floating head
i suppose in a really roundabout way you're right; egalitarianism *does* come from the land when the land makes agriculture surplus either risky or impossible

it's generally accepted that depicting any culture as Noble Savages is bad, I'm not sure why you think it's okay as long as you're doing it to yourself

The Triple Alliance was set up on an immense freshwater lake, and that's not even getting into all the very obviously stratified mississippi culture city-states that existed all up and down the fertile Mississippi River before disease just wiped them all out

and the same thing applies in the Americas: we only ever see flat and egalitarian societies when people lived in places where the choices were share or starve; the Haudenosaunee controlled a vast source of freshwater and were the superpower of North America, yet very much stratified

The one African country that did resist colonization: Ethiopia, were the farmland is decent, droughts are rarer and they were close enough to trade networks to specialize more, which made them the most centralized African state (with an emperor, even!) by far with the sole exception of like, Egypt

This is basically why Africa ended up getting fucked over by Europeans: Africa, on the whole, had hilariously bad farmland and most of the places that didn't were prone to civilization-annihilating megadroughts. Can't have a complex society when everyone is one mediocre harvest away from starvation.

it's kinda weird how all the places that held egalitarianism sacred were always located in places where the farmland was crappy and anyone living there was always living at a hand-to-mouth subsistence level and didn't have a need for complex bureaucracies because there were no resources to direct

long as you don't touch it or speak Greek near it or let it see a cat you barely notice it's there

did she also rise from like 1% in the polls to surge to the top of the Dem primary out of nowhere and then have the guy in second place throw a temper tantrum and go rogue and do a sore loser independent run to the tacit support of the wider DNC?

by a sheer freak coincidence of history alastor's accidental killer was in fact Huey Long on a hunting trip

in basically any other country going rogue and deliberately trying to ratfuck the primary winner because you're a sore loser gets you kicked out of the party, kicked out of politics in general, made persona-non-grata as a completely unreliable turncoat
November 5, 2025 at 5:32 AM
this kind of thing kills political parties dead; if Bernie had tried an (I) run after losing the primary the DNC would've been absolutely justified in purging anyone left of Pelosi for open sabotage, and then that bitterly divided and wounded DNC goes on to lose to Trump in 2020 in a 1936 landslide.
November 5, 2025 at 5:31 AM
and for good reason, because that sets the precedent that you can just run Independent if you don't like the results of the primary you lost, and then every side of the coalition is doing it in every election like a thermonuclear exchange. Political mutually-assured destruction
