NIMBYs out here fighting against new housing right next to a major university with arguments about “the aesthetics of driving” 🙄

My neighborhood is very walkable and because of that walkability our little corner grocery/convenience store has been able to survive. And now there is also an adorable children’s bookstore inside it as well!

I'm honestly surprised it took me until now to discover his work. Pulmonary embolisms are scary. Would have loved to have a beer with him. You can see more of his work here: ggwash.org/view/65706/p...

I was looking for transit graphic design examples and stumbled upon the work of Peter Dovak. I loved all his stuff and saw that he did some stuff for Greater Greater Washington. Then found out that he's from KY and we even overlapped at UK for a year! Only to then discover he died in 2017.

Attending a public meeting about the planned Publix on Romany Rd at the old Kroger location. Curious to see what the design is and more curious about who’s going to complain about a new grocery in a neighborhood…

Just got a better pic of my crew before we set off.

Had our first Bike Bus this morning for Walk, Bike, & Roll to School day. Huge turnout that blew away our expectations. Hope to make it a regular thing. #bikebus

An excerpt from the Mayor’s proposed budget. The entire fund for neighborhood traffic calming would install a single raised crosswalk. The disparity says a lot. A government’s priorities lie in its budget after all.

Wilson’s is a long established neighborhood staple that has gone through a couple of owners over the years. On the spectrum of corner store to grocery, it’s definitely closer to corner store, but it carries some staples and you can pick up lunch as well.

Someone gave this bollard a hat, maybe in hopes that it doesn’t get hit again? This relatively new curb extension is decked out in yellow paint but both the bollard and curb have already been hit.

Another reason to avoid this mosquito sprayer; not only to they show up at my door and call me after I’ve repeatedly told them I’m not interested, they apparently park in bike lanes. Not seen is the completely open driveway right next to the truck

LexTran bringing back the downtown trollies?!?

I drive through this intersection every day and these slip lanes seem entirely pointless. Not connected to a turn lane so no stacking. Just seems needlessly unsafe for pedestrians with now justification. Also a posted 45mph road inside New Circle 🤦‍♂️ #urbanism

This one is even more egregious; near campus and downtown, right next to a major city park, and between two existing commercial nodes. But everything is frozen at essentially 1-2 story single family detached housing. A lot has been converted to apartments but hardly any new buildings.

You can see the skeletons of corner shops past scattered around old Lexington. But instead of million dollar homes it’s student housing because we don’t build enough near campus. Doesn’t help that we made most of the surrounding area “historical”

Here's the area in question, only ~715ft. A two motels converted to "Health care annex" on one corner and a bunch of homes turned student rentals everywhere else. This section of Waller connects two hospitals, with a strip mall, smaller commercial, and apartments in between.

Yesterday, the Lexington Complete Streets Action Plan was presented to council. This is essentially the to do list of everything that needs to happen for us to properly implement our Complete Streets Policy. Lots of very needed things and a pretty big first step.
