Blackthorn is the nom de plume of an American living in Europe. PhD in social sciences. Works with international organizations. I split and stack my own firewood, and take care of trees still standing. Blackthorn.substack.com
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I really hate this trend in newspapers (and of course social media) to illustrate each headline with something literal—shipping containers for tariffs, in this example; Trump & Xi for a China-US issue. Seems an assault, deliberate or not, on abstract thought.

Um, should we be worried that Ukraine just blew up a sizeable chunk of Russia's strategic deterrence bombers (surely not without help), and concurrently Starmer is playing Churchill and calling for "war-fighting readiness" on the part of "every part of society"? ...1/

Guardian still tongue-tied, & propagandizing with passive voice, even at this stage of the genocide. You mean "Izrael kills more than 80 Gazans in latest attacks (and still blocks most aid deliveries)..."

Any #climate scientists want to discuss this chart? I'm very persuaded by CC, but this Eemian high (+6°C!) 120k yrs ago raises many Qs. What triggered the carbon burst? How'd it & the consequent temps recede in fairly short order? Why didn't it set off the feedback loops we now have…

Never mind the weirdness of his minions. By inserting code into the Treasury's payment-system software, Animal Odor can now hold the government hostage—threatening to blow up the financial system and dollar (by withholding payment on maturing bonds) if they cross him. ARREST HIM WHILE YOU STILL CAN

Well, censorship doesn't get much more blatant than that—"The content of your post is invalid." Time to force Musk out of the social-media sphere. BTW, we can wrest control of his corporations by a simple state-level referendum: take away their limited liability, revoke their charters.

"Hezbollah had launched two rockets near a watchtower in the occupied Shebaa farms…They landed in an open area and caused no injuries…Hezbollah said it was an 'initial warning' against 'repeated violations by Israel of the ceasefire agreement."

That's what The Guardian calls an "attack"?

This must be a proofreading error. Surely The Guardian meant "one of the BEST peacetime population declines"
