This album went from being in the lower half of my favorite NIN albums to knocking The Slip out of my top ten. Definitely NIN's best album of the 2000s, focusing more on electronics and electro-industrial elements than the hard rock-focused With Teeth. (cont.)

love is a strong word, but I was quite fond of the movie Vanilla Sky. I showed it to @cafedecheshire.bsky.social and he... LOATHED it. It was... Hilarious and also made me realize I didn't like the movie as much as I remembered liking it. My boyfriend going "fuck you, movie!" is a cherished memory.

Christ this album is great. Raw, powerful, exciting, gutwrenching. So rarely does an album nail every emotion it's going for with such power. Brilliant.

Maybe my favorite story in any concept album, told brilliantly. Utterly heartbreaking. Beautiful album, too, even if the production buries the vocals a little too much.

This album saved my life when I heard it the first time. Emotionally raw and chaotic and beautiful.

Least favorite: If I had to pick, Soul Soldier, which is still great.

I can't find out EXACTLY who designed it, one source claims Vaughan Oliver, creator of artwork for bands like The Pixies and The Breeders. The cover has the band's name and several song titles in white in a scratchy hand-written font, while other song titles are printed on the background in a light green, often haphazardly placed, upside-down, sometimes in italics, Delicate Cutters is presented with the first word in lowercase and the second all uppercase. The background is olive green and may depict a member of the band, but it's hard to tell. There are three red boxes, maybe burgundy, with silhouettes of the band members.

#33: Rush - Caress Of Steel
Wow, what the fuck happened here? After Fly By Night was almost perfect, this feels like Rush stumbling HARD. Aside from two of the band's best tracks, Bastille Day and The Necromancer, the rest feels lacking and doesn't come together as a cohesive whole.

#32: Rush - Fly By Night
Holy Christ, Neil Peart absolutely makes this band work so much better, this feels way more cohesive and distinct compared to the self-titled. Even Geddy's lyrics on Best I Can are improved! Peart's lyrics are the highlight, though, even if Anthem's lyrics are questionable.

A good debut, but man this just kinda sounds like a bunch of guys ripping off Led Zeppelin. The lyrics just flat suck but Geddy Lee makes them work. In The Mood might be the worst song about sex I've ever heard and I never want to hear it again.

MythBusters tested something similar to this apparently, here's the results
It is impossible to swim in bubbling water. plausible In a small-scale test of buoyancy in bubbling water, Adam built a crude hydrometer, weighted to float at a certain height, and placed it in a fish tank full of water. The device did not sink when air bubbled in, but he and Jamie thought that this was the result of upward water currents. Jamie then built a larger bubbler to place inside a 10,000-gallon tank (previously used in the whirlpool myths). Adam donned a wetsuit and carried enough weights to leave only his head above the surface. When the bubbler was turned on, the upwelling pushed him to one side, where he sank in a downward current. In order to eliminate these wall effects, Adam and Jamie built a 4-by-16-foot bubbler to place at the bottom of a swimming pool. After they added weights to keep the rig from floating up, Adam tried to swim across the pool and back through the bubbles. The trip proved difficult at 25% power and impossible at 100%. Adam and Jamie classified the myth as plausible, but for a different reason from the one expected — water currents holding the swimmer at the surface, rather than a loss of buoyancy due to the air bubbles.

Well goddammit this album's perfect and I don't know what I can say that hasn't been said before. The only song that I'm not fond of is Grand Theft Autumn, and that's only because it's JUST okay.

Pros: Ralph Ineson, Willem Dafoe, costuming, good gore effects
Cons: Everything is so LOUD and MAXIMALIST all the time and there is no room to breathe and the pace is weirdly breakneck
