Historian & presenter bringing a fabulous tale of adventure & liberation to light.
I spent the whole thing comparing it to the 2000 version with Cox. I got unexpectedly Brit-mad at the erasure of Airey Neave MP! I feel very much like the film was meant to be an ensemble movie (why spend all that time on the 'funny' Hess flashback?) but then Crowe stole the show.

I'm a big fan of this 1954 video - it was made for marketing departments by the publishers of Ebony Magazine, and does some incredibly deft stepping around directly confronting the implied racism of how consumer companies treat(ed) black Americans.

I first did this back in 2018 for my work's "Day in History" board; realising I could mark a section of the map out in terms of Westminster-area landmarks was one of those mental images that never went away once had.

This news story is the reason in "Pacific War: The Struggle Against Japan" (Victory games, part of Avalon Hill) there is a Tirpitz counter! #wargaming #althistory

Worth pointing out that Clement Attlee, as Deputy PM, is answering on behalf of Churchill - something he spent most of the war doing - likely a significant factor in the public seeing him as a viable future PM himself.

The SEAC newspaper editor was Frank Owen OBE, who wrote "The Campaign in Burma" (1946) which is a very good & at times very critical overview.
