"Society has imposed a very harmful narrative on Black women that suggests we must always be self-sacrificing, strong and resilient—no matter what happens. The idea that we’ll keep going, keep moving and keep doing, no matter how we’re treated or what personal challenges we face, is startling."
PUBLISHER'S NOTE: "This country needs our labor and care so much that it has spent centuries attempting to squash our spirit so that they … can benefit from our existence—but not the wholeness of our being," Kimberly Griffin writes.
Publisher’s Note | America Needs, But Often Scorns Black Women
Kimberly Griffin writes on how Black women in the United States are often taken for granted, valued for what they can offer yet otherwise disrespected.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

“Trump says” is not a story. He says A LOT. He lies a lot. Do some sifting, discerning, contextualizing. Otherwise it’s just stenography. And you’re embarrassing yourselves.

Don't let them lie to you about Senator Padilla. DHS is claiming the agents DID NOT KNOW he was a senator. He CLEARLY says (BEFORE he is tackled and cuffed) "I am Senator Alex Padilla and I have a question for the secretary."

The Trump administration is quietly expanding its work with Palantir to consolidate data from across the government and create detailed files on everyone in the U.S.

This is incredibly dangerous for all of us, but especially for vulnerable communities already in the government's crosshairs.
