Indie game Dev for fun, gaming services dev for money (but it's still fun). I also make ceramics and play board and video games, often with my family.
I'm my eyes it's still the best developer experience wise (and has been for many years) if you have Jetbrains ReSharper or Rider. No other language I've used has refactoring tooling that's quite up to snuff in comparison.

It's clear that tracing CI pipelines is useful, but it's not clear how to instrument them; they're commonly built with yaml defining stages and steps, often including bash scripts and the like. I'm not sure how to propagate a trace context through the steps.

Have you seen any writeups on that?

This is because my team regularly ships weekly for convenience and because it meets the business needs.

The important thing is that if the fix was critical we could make the change and ship it in probably less than 20 minutes without significant deviation from our standard process.

I think that's a really interesting thing to ask because people will almost certainly have an immediate reaction as to if it seems ridiculous or is acceptable. But context is important.

For example, on my current team, the answer is "up to a week".

This may seem like a long time but is actually ok

I've sometimes wondered how well an NPR monetization approach could work for a game. Make it free but with a "donate" button. I'm sure there are games that do this, I just don't know how well it works.

I'm inclined to try it out on my next game, since luckily I can afford to do game dev as a hobby

It's important to note that growth opportunities include personal growth; a high rate of learning is a big plus when considering if the job is a good use of your time.

Oh, actually it turns out that feeds is what I was looking for as far as topic specific content.

I'm having a hard time discovering starter packs. I've added some that came up in my feed, but for topics I'm interested in but not already following someone in the space I'm not sure how to discover them.

I didn't think about storing the root span (of the current service) in context in addition to the current span so that I can add attributes to it (making it much wider) from any place in the trace. I think that's potentially quite powerful and I'm definitely going to give it a try.
