One unforeseen perk of moving from Washington to British Columbia is that my desired selection is near the top of the country and state/province picker when I fill out my address on web forms, so I no longer need to scroll to the bottom 😆

This morning I'm annoyed that in golang simply exporting a commonly used function (i.e. changing from private to public) results in a whole bunch of changes in the diff, rather than just one line on the function signature.

This would be *way* more annoying without good refactoring tools though.

Here's the latest clip of Wavelet gameplay. This shows off the new title screen and fade between scenes, which was a lot trickier than expected in #Unity.

It also features a new continuously varying waveform generator for Zen Mode.

Even though I didn't do much JavaScript work these days, I still enjoy looking over these yearly survey results. The result presentation keeps getting better every year.

Apparently the Tokyo government has announced it's going to implement a four day work week (to try to raise fertility rates)

Here's hoping this helps push the for day work week more into the norm world wide 🤞

Reading @mipsytipsy.bsky.social's blog post on the Architect rooms this morning I was delighted to come across this insightful tip:

Here is one useful measure of your system’s complexity and the overhead involved in making changes:

I'm much happier with the style of the menu now. It fits with the game a lot better than the boring standards rectangular grid assigned buttons I had before.

I finally put up a website for papabear.games. It's hosted on Cloudflare using their generous free tier, using Astro (which I just discovered) and Tailwind (which I've been a fan of for years) and Flowbite. I think this is a nice low-cost solution for an #indiedev site.

I've been on a learning journey around how to get the best value out of distributed traces (using open telemetry) for the past couple of years and I wish I could have read this a lot earlier in that journey. So much good insight and advice!

Although I generally prefer merging each small change to main, if that's not possible then stacked change sets are a good way to keep things understandable and this guy feature looks like it will help a lot with managing those.

Working with stacked branches in Git is easier with --update-refs
In this post I discuss how to use the new Git rebasing feature, --update-refs, and how it makes working with stacked branches/PRs easier.
