Yup. I think this argument is also predicated on the myth of AI authorship (eg “art made BY ai”). But AI isn’t an author, it is itself a work made by people. And those authors took a bunch of art without permission, put it in their software, and are selling it. No other app would get away with that.

They were disappointed to learn “queer demon hunters” did not in fact mean “hunting queer demons”.

Agreed! If it’s not ready, do you think it’s more likely Metroid gets delayed further, or that we just get an underbaked game? I can’t think of a time Nintendo delayed a game with an actual release date so near on the horizon.

I feel like this is true for a lot of the tech that gets majorly hyped. “NFT” also became a dirty word because it was pumped up for all the wrong reasons. Long term, it’s probably going to be really valuable in the insurance and legal world.

Agreed! I had no idea these existed!

I think one term describes a games main verb, and the other its camera perspective. Super Mario 64 is a platformer but certainly not a sidescroller. And while “sidescroller” usually evokes a 2D platformer, that’s not strictly true either. The challenge in a game like Metal Slug is not platforming.

I ascribe to a pretty broad definition of “Visual Novel”– for example, I think Night in the Woods should qualify. So maybe “light platforming” is my answer to the question haha.

Wait, I had no idea this existed! I was crushed when Nintendo Power went away. Thanks for sharing and congrats!
