Ancylotherium was a large chalicotheriidae known from the late Miocene-early Pleistocene #Africa 11.6-1.8MYA. It was a perissodactyl, being related to #horses and rhinos. They had muscular builds and long claws as opposed to hooves, and some of its relatives were built rather like #gorillas.

Megistotherium was one of the largest land #mammal predators ever. Weighing potentially 2400 pounds and with a head longer then 2 feet, it ruled the scrublands of early-middle Miocene #Africa. It likely used its extreme adaptations to hunt the many proboscideans of the time. Continued in comments...

With her usual #proboscidean prey disappearing from middle #Miocene #Africa, this enormous hyaenodont Megistotherium tries adapting her diet to other prey. It's a standoff between her and an Ancylotherium, a strange horse relative.

Early peak at the next one, Megistotherium (late surviving hyaenodont) and Ancylotherium (large chalicotheriidae) in middle Miocene Africa. Fossils of the former are found slightly older than fossils of the latter, but it’s possible the two met briefly, as the fossil record is incomplete.

The Strap-Toothed Whale is among the rarest mammals on Earth. The beaked whales are extremely elusive, and not much is known about them. Strap-toothed whale males grow tusks that may wrap around their top jaws in their old age, starving them to death.

Homotherium latidens, the scimitar cat. Related to Smilodon, it was one of the last of the machairodont cats. They hunted large open habitat mammals like horses, bison, and young mammoths. Long robust legs allowed them to pursue and grapple such prey.

Rough line art for another prehistoric cat, Homotherium latidens. Note the unique posture and limb proportions. Front legs were long and robust to pin powerful prey. The face looks droopy because an elongated upper lip and deep chin covered their massive upper canine teeth.

Juvenile Austroraptor dozes off in its mama's swamp. It's got its adult proportions and is getting bigger, but it'll retain its baby coat until maturity. Better to hide from the aggressive adults that wander into mama's swamp then try and stand your ground.
