This rising star has had two four-hit games in his career, and both games ended with walkoff HRs by this future HOF infielder. Who are they? #starkvilleqs

Helsley got today's win by giving up a 9th inning, game-tying home run ... to Jackson Chourio.

And "Heavy Duty DNA" = HDNA? Where'd the other "D" go? Drives me crazy every time I hear it.

I did too. Feel the same about Max Scherzer. He's made $315 million during his career. At this point, why not take a team-friendly contract to finish his career in St. Louis?

So he was rooting against his old team. Because the 1886 Browns became the Cardinals. The 1944 Browns began in 1901 as the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dick Allen is now, officially, a Baseball Hall of Famer. But what I’ll remember most about him is a whiff that silenced 49,000 people. (8/8)

The Cardinals, despite their roster of stars, finished 10 games under .500 in 1970. They wouldn’t win another pennant for a dozen years. And Allen was dealt away after the season, only to win MVP honors in 1972 with the White Sox. (7/8)

It was thunderous. We knew exactly what would happen. Allen would go deep and we’d all go home happy. Except he didn’t. The loudest noise I think I’d ever heard—all those bats pounding on concrete in unison—turned into a collective groan. Allen struck out. (6/8)

What I recall vividly, though, is the comeback attempt at the end.

After Taylor and Brock each grounded out, Jose Cardenal walked and brought the potential winning run to the plate: Richie Allen. With each pitch, thousands of kids pounded their bats on the concrete at their feet. (5/8)

I don’t really remember the Padres jumping on top, or the Cards tying the game at 4-4 before a Simmons throwing error in the top of the ninth helped give San Diego the lead. I also don’t remember Simmons’ two hits or how he recorded his fifth career RBI. (4/8)

I was a huge fan of those guys, but other than the bat, I was there for Dick Allen, or Richie as we called him at the time. Allen was a stud, so there was a feeling that, with his acquisition, the Cards could return to the World Series after a long, one-year absence. (3/8)

Steve Carlton pitched for the Cards and went the distance. Three other future Hall of Famers were in the lineup, including Lou Brock, Joe Torre and a kid appearing in his 13th Major League game, Ted Simmons. Bob Gibson and Red Schoendienst, also HOF-bound, watched from the dugout. (2/8)

Final game of the 1926 World Series. Ol’ Pete comes in to strike out Lazzeri. Ruth out stealing to end the game.

Bob Uecker. Not sure there's a close second.
