Deception Island is an active volcano and has played host to whaling stations and scientific outposts over the years. The images here are a whaling station abandoned since the ‘30s. It’s easily the spookiest place I’ve ever visited.

Most of these places are really close together and make for a great overnight trip. I still need to visit Plockton, where Howie’s seaplane firsts lands, but that’s way up near the Isle of Skye, and the Logan Botanic Gardens, near Stranraer, to see Lord Summerisle’s apples.

Most of the interior was filmed in another (private) castle but one scene was shot at Culzean. The castle was still shut after lockdown the first time I went, but I finally managed to get a look inside earlier this year.
