Because Gamers™ are still able to convince large numbers of lowercase-g gamers to go along with their boycotts. I said Gamers™ were a loud minority, not a voiceless minority.

What's happening "doesn't make sense" only if one's historical imagination lacks a category of "homegrown American fascism." Like most of my generation, I was socialized in the 80s and 90s to think that the US lacked such a political tradition. I was wrong. bsky.app/profile/seth...
I've had this poster in my office for over 20 years, but it's taken on new meaning over the past few months. "Making Sense of America" has been my job my entire adult life, and it's always been challenging. These days, however, it feels like the entire enterprise of "sense making" is under assault.

If you asked any person who plays video games (not "Gamer™") what their needs RE: "material conditions" are, they would mention things related to the economy.
