No Digital Billboards San Jose

No Digital Billboards in SJ is working to inspire people who care about #SanJose to send the City Council the explicit message - No Digital Billboards!
The digital signs block views of the architecturally significant Center for Performing Arts. From the back, the signs are ugly walls.

Ads for national brands will run 85% of the time.

The City’s plan includes more of these eyesores around downtown coming soon

#SanJose Planning Director 1980s quotes:

"The ordinance is intended...to safeguard aesthetics, upgrade the appearance of the City, and promote economic development"

"The ban is an expression of the very strong commitment on the part of the city council to beautify the city"

The 672 sq foot digital #billboard proposed for Mission St & HWY 87 is designed to be seen by drivers 1/2 mile away on the freeway, but according to the #environmental report, people living 350 feet south of the sign will not be affected. What nonsense.

This site and others have been reported MANY times to Code Enforcement.

A case is created, but historically nothing is corrected as a result the complaint.

It's usually fixed when the next ad installation occurs independent of any City action.

Same site. Earlier 2025 & 2024.

If installing digital #billboards all over #SanJose is City leaders' idea of economic development and visionary policy, we’re in a sad state.

Claims that local business will benefit are highly questionable.

Ask any Council member or decision maker at #SanJose City Hall if they'd be OK with a 672 sq. ft digital display that close to THEIR house, no matter what high tech light directing technology is claimed to help mitigate the impact? Link to project plan: tinyurl.com/9p8jpfv4
