No Digital Billboards San Jose
@billboardsno.bsky.social
No Digital Billboards in SJ is working to inspire people who care about #SanJose to send the City Council the explicit message - No Digital Billboards!
Downtown #SanJose has an identity problem and digital #billboards make it worse. Billboards are designed to distract. They overwhelm nearby architecture and the pedestrian street environment. What a mistake!

The first new digital billboards installed in downtown #SJ are up and running. We fought to try to stop this because giant screens selling soda and other national brands is NOT the way to improve or attract people downtown. It’s a page out of the “how to wreck a downtown” handbook.

Given widespread opposition, why has the #SanJose City Council ignored public disapproval?

Is the City moving forward or backward? Consider the mindset of City Planners who worked to enact the ban on #billboards in the 1980s vs. where we are today.

The #SanJose City Council approved 3 more new digital #billboards. Concerns from NDBSJ, residents, & environmental advocacy groups were ignored. Opening SJ to new BBs after a 40+ year ban is regressive, risky, and not the will of the people @MattMahanSJ

ACTION ALERT: First, they approved downtown digital billboards. Next week (6/17), the #SanJose City Council will consider more new #billboards @ 3 sites along freeways. See a pattern? The City's Phase 2 plan described 110 BBs.

This #billboard is on East Santa Clara Street 2 blocks from #SanJose City Hall.

Should the City reward billboard companies with new opportunities without reviewing their track record?

No!!!

ABC7 Bay Area asks: “What kind of City does #SanJose want to be?” We assert that spreading light and sight polluting power hungry #digitalbillboards displaying ads for national brands all over the City is moving us in the wrong direction.

Tomorrow the #SanJose City Council will vote on digital #billboards for downtown. Next month we expect another Council vote for more billboards at other sites. From there, the floodgate is open. This is not the kind of City most residents want. #DTSJ

Hypocrisy. First the #SanJose City Council adopts a policy that says static #billboards should be taken down in low income neighborhoods. Then they forge ahead with a new billboard at a site where they think it's OK to marginalize people at the Guadalupe EIH housing project.
