Habs fan. English teacher. Mostly here to shoot the breeze about either.
There was a time, many years ago, when I thought it was important to keep tabs on what the other side of the aisle was saying, particularly on twitter.

God, I was an idiot for thinking that.

I really liked Watchmen. The only flaw was not casting Aaron Eckhart as Ozymandius 😎

To extend that analogy, I think if news could better capitalize on the hits, it could help fund the rest.

Say The Tribune has a deep dive on ICE. It definitely would have a wider audience than their regular Chicago news.

Expanding the reach also gives more $ to write other in depth pieces, no?

Man, I dunno. When the alternative is mass layoffs and shuttering news rooms? This is pretty weak sauce.

That article seems to imply it's an either/or situation. It's not. Ppl who subscribe to their local paper likely still would. They're losing the countless others who don't have any interest in subscribing to, say, The Chicago Tribune, but saw an interesting prestige article reposted on social media

No clue.

It drives me around the bend that news media insists on the subscription model. Very few ppl are inclined to have more than 1 or 2 subs.

Let me buy individual articles. A virtual wallet where when I click on a link to an article from any paper, my wallet is debited like $0.25 to read it.

Gotta say, that last episode where they don't move did us no favours when our 5 yr old saw it as we were in the middle of selling our house as well...

(For a show that's so good, I was left muttering "oh biscuits" :)

Sick shirt!!

Agreed. It makes what Levshunov has accomplished all the more impressive.

(As a Habs fan, I'm very happy with how the draft played out. But I think the crap Davidson took for that pick is proving to be very misguided. Levshunov is trending towards being an incredible D man)

While report card language can be pretty difficult to parse, I can't fathom somebody's takeaway being that their 5 yr old's proficiency in math holds any significance whatsoever

What, the kid can count to 100 and add 5+3 (but gets tripped up with 3+5)? I wouldn't buy the Harvard sweater quite yet 😏

I bought reprints for my sister and I a few Christmases back. 😎

It holds up pretty well!

I have a feeling we'll see something similar play out with HIV/AIDS in 25 years' time.
November 10, 2025 at 5:56 PM
Mostly I'm talking about Levshunov. They took a ton of heat for that one. I think he's going to be awesome.

(As a Habs fan, I'm very much okay with how everything worked out :)
November 9, 2025 at 8:43 PM
And Levshunov is up to a 50 pt pace. Maybe Davidson et al aren't quite the idiots that twitter "experts" believes them to be? 😎

True. I thought I remembered reading that he let his driver's license expire and never renewed it. He does not strike me as a person who is capable of doing much on his own.
November 5, 2025 at 8:19 PM
...is he imagining the times when if you paid by personal cheque, you had to also provide your license??

'Cause that stopped being a common thing like 30 years ago...

I wonder who they had at 2 on their list? It wouldn't surprise me if it was Nemec (based on how highly they valued Reinbacher)
November 4, 2025 at 5:00 PM
We must *never* let my 6 yr old daughter see this...
November 4, 2025 at 4:45 PM
That Kindel looks good tonight. I definitely thought he was a bit of a reach when Pittsburgh took him over Eklund or Bear...shows what I know! 😎

The one that makes no sense to me is why the NFL doesn't adopt the CFL's clock rule - on completed plays, the clock doesn't start until the ball is set.

Watching a team trying to prevent their opponents from running out the clock midway through the 4th is not very exciting.

That stage makeup is quite garish.
