I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Trump is a murderous creep, creeping around another murderous creep #Khasoggi

A lot of people don’t like you Mr Trump, you too are extremely controversial … did he deserve to be slaughtered by that gentleman’s direction?
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

"Imagine how much more aware people would be about White House corruption if news stories stopped saying 'Trump said…' and instead said, 'Trump, a convicted felon, said…'"

As @markjacob.bsky.social notes here the conventions of political reporting are helping obfuscate Trump/MAGA criminality:
It’s the media’s version of a “pardon” when news outlets fail to remind the public of past crimes by Trump and his mischief makers such as Steve Bannon.

The ex-podcaster running the FBI is just as qualified as the Fox ex-host who runs the military and the insurance lawyer who’s suddenly a prosecutor and the brain-wormed, dead-bear-cub-dumping guy who’s in charge of health and the big-lipped Islamophobe who tells Trump who to fire.
So don’t worry.

New from me: “working the refs” has come for Wikipedia. The same type of attacks alleging anti-conservative bias that right wing politicians have make about social media are coming for the encyclopedia — because of its critical role in shaping AI answer engines.
