Anyone who says that travel will take longer if the road is shrunken hasn’t done the math. The road was out of commission for six hours today.

This happened at Broderick and Lombard Streets in San Francisco on the morning of 11/18/25.
Lombard Street is a surface level highway in the neighborhood of Cow Hollow. It is maintained by Caltrans and they should have put it on a diet ages ago.

Here’s some video footage provided by SFFD.

One time I saw a cyclist run a red light.

Hi @bart.gov, I must have just missed an SF bound train at MacArthur, but was shocked to see the wait time was 14 minutes during the morning commute. We should be moving faster, more frequently than the cars parallel to us if we’re going to get people out of them.

I hear you, but it doesn’t snow in the Bay Area. Also speed bumps are the lowest form of traffic calming. Plantings are where it’s at.

Now let me tell you about the drivers…
October 4, 2025 at 6:46 PM
I don’t oppose them. It’s just the only tool currently in their toolbox. They don’t have any plans to change the streets. The head of streets says this out loud:

She says it right here!

We won’t know until we try! Also…

This is a response received for suggesting that all of San Francisco should have residential permit parking rather than just some of the neighborhoods. If only Donald Shoup were with us. I’m sure he would be laughing too.

@eliotjacobson charts RE societal danger:

1) 2-yr running mean 🌎surface temp anomaly: ~1.6°C⬆️ 1850-1900 IPCC pre-industrial baseline
• 🌎 hasn’t been this 🔥 in 120,000+ yrs

2) 3/1/25 Arctic update: sea-ice extent set record daily low every day in Feb + poised to set all-time record low max in Mar

This is a sign that there is too much car parking or car traffic. There’s certainly more than enough pavement for everyone to ride and park a bike.
January 30, 2025 at 5:14 PM
💯In America, cars and bikes/pedestrians must be separated. Yes they can safely comingle in Japan, the Netherlands, but 🇺🇸 drivers are terrible and our streets are chasms. You don’t need a special degree to design safe infrastructure. In fact, the professionally trained have done a terrible job.

Just realizing that we have our first highly visible climate refugees. The cameras don’t roll in Asheville, Sarasota, Tampa, and Tornado Alley like they do in Los Angeles.
January 11, 2025 at 9:47 PM
I don’t mind the gates. I mind that they installed the damn things during the daytime. That kind of inconvenience would NEVER happen to freeway drivers.

Newsom needs to include e-bike rebates. E-bikes are the most energy efficient form of human transport on earth. California should be leading on this TODAY - regardless of what the Feds do.

Can someone please remind me why SFMTA considers taxis transit?
November 25, 2024 at 5:46 AM
Agree. And also, if SFMTA needs some cash, it could start by charging for all parking - RPP the entire city. Also issuing fines for violations would help. They need to use the tools that they have.

Flash flooding in the City of San Francisco? We’re surrounded by the ocean and the bay with no rivers or creeks. Is that possible?
November 22, 2024 at 8:48 PM
Americans won’t care because they can carry on as normal - no change required!

Hopefully the military & NASA will administer the program. If it’s in private hands, 2024 could be the last presidential election. If you control the whole world, you surely control 🇺🇸 people.

Musk will explain it.
🍊🤡 will greenlight it because Musk is a “smart cookie”.
No international approvals/ conversations - not 🍊🤡’s style.
No country will dare do a thing about it because we’ll just “bomb the hell out of them”.

US military spend is ~ the rest of the Top 20 GDP nations combined.

We’re 🔥🌎🔥 and they’ll want some cooling, at least in the 🇺🇸, ahead of the mid-term elections.

There won’t be a 🇺🇸 emissions reductions or a carbon tax - it’s the economy, stupid! We will continue to consume and emit at our typical gluttonous rate.

After Tuesday, anyone involved in climate science is rightfully concerned for the fate of civilization and life on earth.

The silver bullet will be arriving shortly in the form of solar radiation management (SRM). I bet operations will begin within the next 12 months. Why?
