As someone who's been kicked out of a metro station for singing non-religious music, into the literal pouring rain, this is very frustrating unfair application of the rules.

I was at a civic association meeting once where someone said maybe renters shouldn’t be allowed to vote because they are inherently impermanent, and they definitely didn’t understand how fucked up that was. I feel similarly about nativism.

Nativism isn’t something that we celebrate in any other context (born Americans vs immigrants), though I understand somewhat wanting to stand firm in the face of gentrification. I just think that it does more harm than good to require people’s bonafides before allowing them space in public discourse
