2/8 The logic is seductive: let those who can pay exit the public queue, shortening it for everyone else.

But this fails the laws of physics.

👉 The number of doctor hours is finite. You aren't adding capacity; you're just reshuffling the line based on a wallet biopsy rather than medical need. 👈

Another snow-groomer gnome spotted on 83rd:

In Edmonton, we have bike lane snow-groomers, and heros who voluntarily tow them through fresh snow to help smooth other cyclists' paths. Snow-groomer gnomes, of a sort.

The problem, we are learning, with the Copenhagenizer Index is that they only evaluate cities that pay to be rated. So the N is already skewed. The indicators are great for comparing cities, but not for ranking any of them.

#Edmonton's next 4-year budget planning starts soon. We hope YegCC takes a VERY hard look at how #autonormativity is costing everyone, in taxes & lives. We’re grateful to the @yegbike.bsky.social for this report card! Share it with your local city councillor: open.substack.com/pub/yegbike/...

YUP. It's time to start recognizing, publicly, that #Edmonton is a #bikecity.
We're not Amsterdam-Copenhagen-Montréal-Paris-Oulu yet. But we're on our way, and the electorate is providing the momentum. Our mayor, and the majority of elected councillors use bicycles as active transportation.

Eg: from north of the river, east of the Wellington bridge (closed), options include: car-based detour many blocks north, plus mostly sharrows/car infrastructure, or raised sidewalks to End-of-the-World & unlit river valley, or unlit UofA farm, with more iffy river, hwy & suburbs to cross.
