A raccoon living in the Greater Toronto Area. I'm a hobby artist who just wants to draw cute women *and* find people who want to see them. Tooting/boosting a lot of […]
Hey I guess I ought to update this: the repair was a success! It looks and feels like a factory unit, and everything works perfectly (including fingerprint sensor, which needed a special calibration with Google software).
There's only one little thing that's out of sorts: there is now a […]

@CrisColor Thanks! I do hear that from time to time, despite not doing it intentionally... though I was an anime fanatic in the '90s-'00s so it makes sense :BlobCat_SmilignOpenMouth:

Though recently I'd started Hades on the Steam Deck. Fiddly hack-n-slash combat isn't quite my cup of tea so I never bothered with it back in the day, but having tried it now, I can definitely see what all the fuss was about. I badly want to keep learning more of the story and about the […]

I went through the procedure of cleaning all the surfaces, applying the new gasket, removing all the protective plastic film, and smooshing things back together. Once again, the phone could power on and operate as expected. At this point it's lying flat with many books atop it, to evenly seal […]

I still possessed the first cracked phone, so I did the repair on it. The screen is held on with both clips *and* an adhesive rubber gasket, and removal is a pain. iFixit gives details on how to apply heat and slowly lift specific sections in a specific order... but I wasn't careful enough, and […]

The question came to mind: should I be upgrading at this point? A newer Pixel would cost more... but what if I just bought a replacement screen and fixed it myself? There are *compatible* ones on Amazon and such that were affordable, but no idea how well they would look or work. Then I learned […]

Well guess what I dropped the phone *again*. Flat on its back this time. This caused the layer separation in the screen to *extend further*, three quarters of the way down the right side. It looks like the opaque black ink had dribbled downward, covering a few millimeters of screen.

I got to thinking: can I, like, *shrink* the visible area of the screen? The selfie camera is in a hole punched out of the top of the screen, and it's not hard to make the top of the display start *below* the camera instead of above it, but that still left lots of dead screen.

My second second-hand Pixel 7 Pro—I'm using it right now to post this toot—worked great, until I (go on, guess) dropped it. It landed on its top right corner, which managed to separate a layer of the screen, rendering the pixels in that area completely dead. This made a black splotch in the […]
