The final line of "The Twin Dilemma" sums up the entire Sixth Doctor era in one sentence.

"I am the Doctor.... whether you like it or not."

The “unstable to likable” arc for the Sixth Doctor could’ve been brilliant — but it wasn’t. UK audiences were left with a bad first impression, and Eric Saward’s choices only dug the hole deeper, setting #DoctorWho on its road to the wilderness years.

Hard to follow "Caves", and "The Twin Dilemma" sure proves it — a big step down in many ways. Still, I’ve got a soft spot for it. Colin Baker’s debut might be messy, but he absolutely goes for it as the Sixth Doctor. #DoctorWho

As a new #DoctorWho fan, I thought season 22 had terrible cliffhangers. Turns out the 45-minute episodes were chopped up for U.S. syndication. Some work, some don’t—but that’s part of the American fandom experience! And don't get me started on the blocky font used!

When KTEH aired Colin Baker’s first #DoctorWho season, I was just a few months into fandom. I remember the hype for “The Twin Dilemma” (pledge drive & all) and being eager for Season 22. Turns out, local fans threw a pizza party for it — I found out via the off-air VHS taping.

Looking back on the Fifth Doctor’s run, it feels remarkably consistent—steady quality, a few real highs, and only the occasional stumble. As my first #DoctorWho, it will always mean a lot to me.

Rewatching "Caves of Androzani", I wondered—why doesn’t the Doctor give Peri the bat’s milk in the caves? Dramatically, it works, but logically, curing her sooner means she could run to the TARDIS and he’d keep more of the antidote. #DoctorWho

After years of failed attempts, I finally saw "Caves of Androzani"—in feature format! But even then, peril struck: the version played episode two’s cliffhanger before the opening credits. For a second, I feared destiny would rob me yet again. #DoctorWho

Superb script, superb direction, superb performances, superb incidental score. "Caves of Androzani" has all of these in spades. I've seen it so many times, but I'm always impressed by something new each time I watch it again. So many great moments. #DoctorWho

"Caves of Androzani" has two magnificently memorable and one fairly standard #DoctorWho cliffhangers.

Graeme Harper's direction of "Caves of Androzani" really makes you sit up and take notice. Feels like he'd waited for years to get his chance and was going to make sure he didn't miss any opportunity to shine. He doesn't. #DoctorWho

One thing I'll give Eric Saward credit for is lobbying to get Robert Holmes writing for #DoctorWho again. Seeing Holmes' credit on "Caves of Androzani" after a couple of seasons away is a treat. And "Caves" is an absolute masterpiece on many levels.

My "Caves of Androzani" curse on KTEH:

• Grounded from TV first airing
• Set the VCR wrong second time

It became one of the last #DoctorWho stories I finally saw — and wow, worth every missed chance.

Can't help but think "Planet of Fire" would have been a great final story for the Ainley Master. The look on the Doctor's face as he watches his only nemesis in the flames is so well done by Davison. Too bad this will be undercut in a few stories. #DoctorWho

Wish that instead of hastily infodumping character background for Turlough, the reveals felt a bit more natural. Might have made his decision to depart at the end of "Planet of Fire" a bit more authentic. End of an era for #DoctorWho when it comes to companions.
November 4, 2025 at 3:54 PM
The Master's plans post-"Castrovalva" are a bit half-baked. Well, except "Planet of Fire" where he's trying to undo his own error in upgrading his TCE. Add to it that Ainley looks so good strutting around in a suit as Kamelion—best 5th Doctor Master story. #DoctorWho

Of the 80s location shoots for #DoctorWho, the use of Lanzarote for "Planet of Fire" may be the best. An alien world that feels alien, coupled with the early vistas of the water areas, all coupled with some great direction by Fiona Cumming.

Watching "The Great Pumpkin" last night and struck once again by how incredibly rude Charlie Brown's neighbors all are. Why do they all hate him so?
