2 weeks after a major snowfall is when you realize how bike lanes are really just for snow storage

I’ve emailed Nrinder/Hwang with these exact proposals. Keep pushing.

I also ride Dunsmure daily but private activities are not counted towards LL’s ;)

It’s endemic.

Two blocks after this, predictably, he almost left hooked me. On purpose, probably not… he was just too into whatever show he was binge watching on his way home from work.

This kind of illustrates the idea that traffic/congestion could be greatly alleviated with mode shift. Get more of these non-essential, shorter trips to use transit, bike, or walking, and not the personal automobile.

🚫 build more roads
🫡 build more transit/bike lanes & promote mode shift.

December 12th, -7c, feels like -19c with wind gusts up to 70km/h. Already 12 cyclists through at 8am (13 incl. me). #hunterbikelanecount #nobodybikes #6monthwinter

December 9th, rain, 3c. 23 cyclists through at 8am (24 incl. me), 1635 since December 1st. #hunterbikelanecount #6monthwinter

This mornings ride also made me think of Doug Fords opinion that “bikes lanes should be on secondary roads”.

The secondary roads don’t get plowed until much later in the day, making bike commutes on them less feasible. I’m forced to take main roads out of necessity on days like today.
December 5, 2024 at 1:53 PM
The hardest part of today’s commute actually wasn’t the cold, snow, or the wind. It was the driver of the oversized pickup truck who buzzed me and yelled “get in the bike lane asshole.”

Note: “bike lane”(actually a bus lane) was full of snow.

Bike lanes are anti-union, didn’t you know? We must help save the auto industry from these bike-tyrants!

November 29th. 1c, wet. 13 cyclists by before 8am again. 828 total after 1 week, which means 828 fewer car trips.

10:38- Ted McMeekin calls on council to “Pow Wow” about road safety.

Omg I need to stop. I’m less than 10 minutes into watching this meeting and I need a breather. This has been a manic first few minutes on BlueSky I’m sorry. TBC.

10:37- Clark says there’s a public “war on cars.”

Did you not read Bill 212 Brad? It’s literally called “reducing gridlock to save you time- framework for bike lanes that require removal of traffic lane”. His government is blaming traffic on bikes. The only “War” is the one Doug has created.
November 14, 2024 at 3:01 AM
10:35- Brad Clark says “we’re not being targeted by Premier Ford, so, don’t step on Supermans Cape.”

Hold on. Isn’t the whole thing about bill 212 that every municipality will have to submit proposals to a provincial oversight committee? Sounds like it will absolutely effect us.

SUPERMAN?!

And Jackson again. Repeats that “Bike lanes are anti union.”

Because building cars are the only jobs these people could ever work. They could never, theoretically, build trains instead.

Also let’s keep in mind that bike lane spending makes up like 0.5% of the capital budget.

10:34- More Jackson: “I see very few commuter cyclists in my ward.”

Yea that’s because your ward is a total black hole of any kind of useful cycling infrastructure. I actively avoid it. The only place worse is your neighbour Ward 7.
November 14, 2024 at 2:47 AM
10:32am- Tom Jackson says “drivers are being ignored” and that “bike lanes will cause the auto industry to collapse completely.”

Really? Hamilton has highway-sized roads blasting through neighbourhoods, past local businesses, riding what they call the “green wave.” But sure, drivers get nothing.
