In terms of plotting, those Three-Body Problem books were top notch. But, as OP says, lots of *yikes* throughout. The racial caricatures ramp up in book 2 in a way that is almost beyond belief. Those used to reading modern SF have to read it like the golden age stuff but with a Sino-centric twist.
The third book in this series is so misogynistic that it made me retroactively hate the previous two books and I will never again read anything Liu Cixin writes.
by the way, I've written a couple of things on the "western civilization is killed by suicidal empathy" line of reactionary thought. start with the Three Body Problem fans.

The stars of girlie pop don't optimize their appearance for the male gaze, but it's laughable to think that almost all of them don't fall squarely in the top quartile for attractiveness for some generalization of heterosexual men
Something I find very funny is people periodically talking about how Sabrina Carpenter "isn't hot to men", as if heterosexual male fans are the audience her career depends on. I thought we had all understood 'women mostly dress up for themselves, or for women' but looks like we've forgotten again.

This has been a legitimately great weekend, even for sports, but for a one little baseball game that I watched most of on my phone at a friend's thing.
I can't read about or appreciate the greatness of Yamamoto or the series as a whole right now. Moping will be done until morale improves.

This is the most controlled I've seen #WatfordFC play all season. Attack when called for, but defensive shaped never sacrificed for ill-advised darting runs, especially from the back 4. Boro had all of 0.12 xG that whole half with few threats of note either.
