Today I honor my father, CSM Spencer Gilliard, who fought in Korea and twice in Nam after serving as a guinea pig in Korea, the only black soldier in his platoon. Here he briefs the Sec. of the Army on troop readiness in Viet Nam. He went on to serve 30 years as a CME pastor. My hero, my father.

Great time this weekend speaking to a Sankofa group in Atlanta, along with two of the SCLC field staff, Lula Joe Williams and J.T. Johnson, both personally hired by Dr. King. They spoke to sojourners from across the country who left Atlanta headed from Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma and Memphis.

Of course Trump would claim the U.S. has "too many non-working holidays" on Juneteenth, the day celebrating the freedom of black people who built the wealth of this nation during nearly 400 years as enslaved, uncompensated, denegrated, non-citizens.

ATL Pastor Jamal Bryant, the leader of the boycott against Target and Dollar General over their abandonment of D.E.I. in the era of Donald Trump: "Only two percent of Dollar General's leadership is African-American," even thoug they mainly serve black and poor working class people, urban and rural.

Had a great time this weekend hanging out with the courageous members of SCOPE in Montgomery as they celebrated their 60th anniversary. White students were recruited by Dr. King in 1965 to educate and register black people who had never voted in the south. kinginstitute.stanford.edu/summer-commu...

Great time tonight at opening session of the 60th anniversary of SCOPE, the Summer Community Organization for Political Education project of the SCLC. Dr. King visited dozens of colleges in 1965 recruiting white students south to help. 60 years later, they are meeting again in Montgomery, AL.
