Research morsel #2:

Did research on brothels in the Victorian era to try and get the verbiage (likely won't need it, but still cool to read). I found this amongst "descriptions" of sex workers, their specialties, and where to find them.

This novel in its entirety. But there's an (unedited) scene where the monster performs, essentially, his own top surgery. That one made me smile.

Text from the story "But if your dark science is what keeps me from being whole, I will no longer make it the measurement of who I am. Perhaps men like Felix will never love me, but I am tired of the opinions of other men. There is only one man who matters. So I compromise. I bend at the side of a lake with tools and disinfectants I purchased at a roadside pharmacy. I slice into my chest, pulling out globs of yellow fat until I reach muscle. I carve out my breasts and toss them to the animals drawn by the scent of blood. I cut my pallid rind to size and apply my craft, sewing the skin taut like the first night I watched Greta perform an amputation. This is my own amputation, ridding myself of undesired flesh. Afterwards, I burn the stinking bandages. I finally tend to my sores with an apology. When my chest heals enough that I can lay in the sun without my shirt, to feel the heat sink deep into my ribs, I cry. Through the tears though is a smile. Radiant. I did not need your permission. I never needed you."

I also find it interesting how many people use well-known Greek figures (Plato, Sokrates, Psyche) in their ads. There was definitely a connection between Victorian era queerness in Germany and the Ancient Greek aesthetic.
