Finding the right environment is the key, I think.

Some coders can't think, and most thinkers can't code. Those that can think and code (even a little) are uncommon and can accomplish very interesting things in the right environment.

Mathematics has always struck me as being more closely aligned to the humanities than to how much of science is framed (especially pedagogically). Also, computer programming is language and logic, even though many seem to lump it in with "math" stuff. Signed: "a reluctant scientist".

Arniel has some permutations he can try like 36 at 2C & maybe Ford / Lambert into the mix. But there isn't enough speed & talent to spread around even if they break up the top line. If he can't find a top mid-6 F in trade he needs to consider a reboot for 2026/27. They aren't close to Avs and Stars.

An insightful article. If the Jets persist with Salomonsson (& Miller) on D, I think the D is okay. Salomonsson already looks steady and has considerable upside.

But the bottom-9 Fs are very low on speed & talent. Chevy needs to rectify his off-season mistakes or he'll soon be looking at 2026/27.

Arniel is right, and he should keep playing Salomonsson. He'll soon be a consistently reliable RD that tilts the ice. Eventually, we'll see more offense, too. There were some glimpses of his sharp offensive instincts. The slot feed to Scheifele was...

Game score metric is a bit unkind to Salomonsson due to the two goals against. But I thought he played a very solid game overall.

I don't expect Hellebuyck level, but it has to be replacement level or better. This team won't win many games giving up 3-4 goals a game.
November 27, 2025 at 4:07 AM
He moved the puck better than any of our RHD. He was a bit unfortunate on the pass from Perfetti, but it was the right instinct. Samberg didn't have his "A" game, either.
November 27, 2025 at 4:04 AM
Yup. This season could go down the drain quickly over the next month, especially with Hellebuyck out.
November 27, 2025 at 3:29 AM
I'm assuming that Chevy really wants to make the playoffs this season. If so, he has to recover from some poor player moves and add a difference maker or two in the mid-6 F. Despite a couple of unfortunate wobbles, it's exceedingly clear that Salomonsson will make the Jets' D better.

I've been told that I use commas excessively in my writing, but it helps to parse ideas within a sentence, which is often necessary.

As someone who greatly values commas, I enjoyed that passage very much, unsurprisingly.

Huh. Come to think of it, our houseplants have been Amazonic since I subscribed, but my wife has been getting all the credit. That's what happens when your model excludes key independent variables.

The Jets have 6 forwards who are producing less than Stanley or DeMelo at 5v5:

Nyquist
Namestnikov
Perfetti
Toews
Iafallo
Pearson

They are going nowhere unless they can get more secondary scoring from their forwards. I don't think line juggling will solve the issue. They need more speed & talent.

"I'm playing."

Doesn't seem fazed about facing Ovie.

I like his demeanour.
November 25, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Beauty.

I hope Salomonsson never plays another game with the Moose and that your jersey is of only historical interest.
November 25, 2025 at 7:59 PM
The Jets really needed to address the lack of speed across their lines. This new lineup sort of addresses that. But top-6 Pearson is a clear indicator that Chevy needed a better plan to replace Ehlers. Secondary scoring was an obvious deficit, with no internal fix evident.
November 25, 2025 at 7:36 PM
I remain somewhat puzzled about how anemic the Moose offense has been for the past couple of seasons. Maybe they are just trying to imbue an organizational focus on defensive play and structure.
November 25, 2025 at 5:17 PM
Having re-read that column just now I would opine that Salomonsson's offensive potential is higher than all but Morrissey & maybe Pionk on the Jets' D. He's not a "dancer", but he is capable to take the puck down low & has a good shot. He can also jump up to create odd-man rushes in transition.
November 25, 2025 at 3:39 PM
Playing with Bauer is certainly another level of challenge compared to playing with Salomonsson. 😬
November 25, 2025 at 3:30 PM
I've been of the same opinion. Phillips' game was so chaotic... kind of like an AHL version of Haydn Fleury. But sometimes a player just makes the leap and figures out how to play effectively. I doubt Phillips has strong NHL potential, but perhaps enough to make Heinola completely expendable.
November 25, 2025 at 3:24 PM
...speaking as another fan (and season-ticket holder), I would also reiterate that Winnipeg fans endorse the "draft and develop" imperative, and are puzzled at its seeming disintegration. Moreover, Jets fans tend to be sophisticated enough to see when marginal vets are dragging the team down.
November 25, 2025 at 3:21 PM
You have captured Salomonsson's strengths well, and Arniel has been impressed by him in camp in 2024 and 2025. Will the Jets' slumping fortunes motivate Arniel to give Salomonsson a look? It should. The Jets have a lot of question marks on D, and Salomonsson might hold some of the answers.
