YS librarian, fantasy writer, DM, crocheter, cat mom. Neurospicy (particulars still under investigation) bi-ace nerd. She/her.
Couldn't attend a protest OR pride today because I was working, which sucks. But increasingly, the work I do every day - getting books and information into the hands of young readers - feels like resistance. It shouldn't have to.

Mom: so how have you been?
Me: uhhhhhh [embroiled in work drama, constantly anxious about the state of the world, so so tired at all times] fine I guess

I had to make a scary phone call earlier and the person didn't pick up. When I was leaving a voicemail, I got so anxious I forgot my phone number.

When I tell you I feel like a child cosplaying as a real adult...

Me: I miss my online community. I will try to find a safe online space to engage with like minded friends and meet other writers.

The world: cool cool cool, what if we make everything so toxic that you just. Can't do that without harming your own mental health?

Wild hail Mary pass here: does anyone know any queer adult Mormons who might be willing to talk to one of my teens about their experiences?

I'm anxious about my hubby and everybody else who has to be on the roads today since our state is not built to handle ice, but the snow was sure pretty!

He's not on this app and I don't want to talk about his business but I DO want everyone to know I'm so so proud of my little brother today!

Absolutely wild to be seeing LA on fire while everyone around me prepares for a snowpocalypse. Whenever you are, hoping you're safe. Jeez.

The best thing you can do for an author is to request their book from your library. The library will usually get it for you! The author will get an immediate sale, and libraries will know there is a demand for their future books! Just google your library name plus "book request" or walk in and ask
Library purchases are purchases. They pay the press. The press counts them towards advances and royalties. And (gasp) the book is in a library!! It’s wonderful and no one should ever feel bad about getting a book through a library instead of buying it.
I got it from my local library system, which has 28 physical copies (more than half are checked out) and 4 audiobooks. The branch library is two blocks from my house so I get most of my books from there. Hope this helps because I loved the book - I'm not a historian and knew nothing of that period.

Y'all my bestie is at the hospital today giving birth to a WHOLE ASS BABY. She grew a human! And now she has to bring it into the world! This is the first baby among my close friends and I'm obviously Super Chill About It

Say it with me: my book doesn't suck, this is just part of drafting. My book doesn't suck, this is just part of drafting. My book d

I had so many plans for this evening and instead I have Had A Migraine 😠 The good news is that my medicine works and I no longer have a migraine. The bad news is that I now have a Noodle Skeleton. The worse news is that the kitchen, and thus hydration, is All The Way Over There

Today on "representation matters," I'm reading SO LET THEM BURN and a character describes knowing she feels about girls the way another character feels about boys "or the way Faron felt about no one at all," and y'all the way my whole brain immediately went ASPEC SIGHTING????????

One of my kids last night was telling me about how their English teacher told them they didn't have to read all of Romeo and Juliet because "everyone knows what happens," and instead they just read the balcony scene & wrote essays about whose fault the tragedy was. I'm sorry, WHAT?

This is a terrible idea, in fact

Publishing could be putting this energy into literally anything else - idk, maybe supporting the authors it relies on - and we're talking about this???

I had to take my tinsel garland down because the cat kept trying to eat it, and to add injury to insult, I have not yet developed spatial awareness on the staircase here, so in the process I smashed the absolute bejeezus out of my skull. Today's going great.

Vaccines are important and I'm going to keep getting them but damn this latest covid booster messed me up. I don't think I've ever had fever chills quite as bad as I did last night. I need several naps. Pls send good vibes to survive my work day 🥲

Finished getting books on shelves and my twinkle lights up in my home office today, and got to spend some time just practicing Christmas songs on my ukulele and enjoying my space. Tomorrow is going to be a lot, but tonight was so peaceful.

Still a ways to go before I finish the draft, but I'm feeling good about this word count milestone!

With the holiday, I have had FOUR WHOLE DAYS off in a row, and even though I've been sick for most of it, I feel like a new woman. I slept AND got some housework done AND made progress on personal projects, imagine what I could do if I didn't have to spend all my spoons on capitalism all the time!

First holiday season in OUR HOUSE and the tree is up and I'm just feeling a lot of feelings 💜

Trying to do my bedtime puzzles routine and the cat keeps deciding it is time to wear my skin or something, I love that she loves cuddles but I do also need to breathe
November 27, 2024 at 5:46 AM
What if, instead of being at my job, I just went home and worked on my book and cuddled my cat. What If.

These examples comes up a lot but: libraries throw away A LOT of books, and no, we don't want your boxes of dusty old books and magazines.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

It's not just local media, all journalism is catastrophically threatened right now. We never found a business model to replace print ads and classified ads. No one is making a profit, including many of the biggest fish.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Food systems are the #2 contributor to climate change, the #1 driver of deforestation, the #1 driver of biodiversity loss on land, and the #1 user of freshwater.

(It follows that food systems contain many solutions to these problems.)
