Banjo was pretty droopy today but perked up a little with several big piles of cat treats and soft mousse.

Dental is scheduled for tomorrow. Really, really hoping that this helps get my cat back to his bossy, food-loving self

I start with the Seven Plot Point outline as I find it works best for my brain - but this is usually only the first little seed during brainstorming #kidlitchat
TOPIC: How do you come up with your story's structure? Are you a Save the Cat person? A hero's journey lover? Do you follow a natural rhythm, have another template or not even think about it? Discuss away! #kidlitchat

The problem with offering Banjo a wide variety of options for food is that now he expects them.

He ran all excited over to his new spot and then straight up glared at me when I dared to provide some of his prescription food

Plot Twist: He just ate a bunch of a different fancy somewhat prescription food
Banjo: -ignores expensive prescription food, possibly because it is hurting his bad tooth-

Also Banjo: -happily scarfs down giant piles of crunchy cat treats because Delicious-

Freaking cats.

I liked it! It’s going to be very satisfying to see all the things that were happening with the NPCs.

Low-key missing my bestest cleric, Caduceus Clay but he’ll arrive soon enough 🥰
Mighty Nein?! Early drop??!! FOR ME?!

Bless. I’m so excited to watch when I get home.

Vet was positive and encouraging, says to try some antibiotics first and see if he improves. The heart murmur doesn’t concern her yet (he has no history of one until now), and if this works, it’ll stabilize both his tooth and liver numbers.

My bastard (affectionate) cat is sticking around for a bit
Banjo may have decided to rally. Waiting on a return call from the vet.

Saying goodbye to my little buddy tomorrow.

Welp. Banjo has drained my emergency fund with his ER visit and this round of bloodwork so it’s time to share this again 🫠

Vet visit with Banjo this morning. I suspect it is his teeth that are bothering him once again and causing him not to eat his usual amount.

I got my first ever 'fan email' the other day and it meant the world to me. I often feel like a very small fish in a very large ocean, so to hear that someone else has connected with my work is HUGE

Woke up to Banjo’s furious purring instead of distress meows this morning.

He’s eating some still, and the fact that he hopped up in bed on his own is a good sign that he feels better and his strength is coming back.

This little prince had a plate of kibble delivered to his chosen spot on the couch.
We’re home. Banjo is uncomfy and yelling about it so it’s safe to say he’s feeling better.

At the emergency vet with Banjo. He woke me up at 4:45am with low distress meows. He didn’t even fight going into the carrier. Something is very not right with my diabetic buddy 😭

It’s important to remember that, with trends in traditional publishing, everything runs 3 or so years behind. You have more flexibility with this in indie spaces but racing after trends is hard to do #kidlitchat
November 5, 2025 at 2:18 AM
I don’t write to trends but I have noticed an uptick in characters that are necromancers which I feel ever so slightly smug about “predicting” even if I ended up going indie with my debut #kidlitchat
TOPIC: We just had a time change and, as always, times are changing, too. Do you keep an eye on trends? How do they inform how you work? And what trends are you noticing in the kidbook biz these days? #kidlitchat
