Medieval story time! Let’s talk about Isabel, who stabbed a priest when he told her to shut up in church (relatable)

So Isabel lived in London in 1330.

Yes writing emails is a pain so instead of hiding behind an AI to do it for you like a coward you need to simply have the courage of your convictions and stand up for what matters and simply not reply to them like the rest of us

This morning I travelled to Mechelen for a visit to the (relocated and thoroughly renewed) Speelgoedmuseum / Museum of Toys. There was going to be a press conference about a loan from the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library to the Museum of Toys.

It's WAY overused these days, but Tolkien nailed it. "I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Jan 29 1925: dog teams set out from Nenana, Alaska to bring diphtheria antitoxin to Nome, where the disease was spreading. 20 teams & mushers carried the serum over 674 miles in under 130 hours.

I found a book from 2014 on deconnection for 1 euro. Very entertaining: some predictions came true, other times the author was completely wrong (in retrospect). This passage made me close the book for a few minutes, and take a deep breath.

Ever wondered why walking around museums is weirdly tiring? At normal speed our legs act like pendulums, swinging forward from the hip & saving us a huge amount of energy. In "museum shuffle" our muscles must do ALL the work of constant readjustment. So cake in the cafe is scientifically justified 🥳

Interestingly, the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame de Paris this evening (live broadcast here www.youtube.com/c/FRANCE24/l...) is *not* the rededication. The Archbishop will open the doors an bless the organ and the building, but the dedication of the altar is reserved for Sunday.

A letter to the Belgian nuncio from a woman who believed that the Belgian fascist and later collaborator Degrelle was the Messiah: "[J]e suis convaincue que Léon Degrelle est celui dont parle les prophéties, et qui viendra sauver le pays." (1938)

The little folded paper packets of hair that a magician’s clients sent him in 1916! is now the time to revive #IckyArchives ?

Where universities don't support staff to be open about their own neurodiversity, it leaves neurodiverse students unable to see that they can succeed and be supported.

Whether deliberate or not, this is a conversation the uni is entering into.

If only the peer reviewers (I presume not historians) had informed the author of the difference between ‘the past’ and ‘historical narratives’. It’s not ‘the past’ that has been questioned. How could it be? It’s simply what happened. It’s White supremacist narratives about it.

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

A Place of Joy.
